Daniela Arias

Daniela Arias is a PhD student in the Economics Department at the New School for Social Research. She holds an MA from The New School, and also earned a BSc. in economics and business administration from Keene State College in New Hampshire. Daniela is originally from Ecuador and her research interests are in labor market policies, social security issues in developing countries and macroeconomic theory.

 

Laura Carvalho

Laura Carvalho is a PhD student in the Economics Department at the New School for Social Research. Her main research interests are Structural Change, Economic Development and Growth. Before receiving a Fulbright grant to study in the US, she conducted empirical work on the Brazilian pattern of specialization and industrial development and obtained a MA equivalent in Economics at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She has worked for the National Development Bank of Brazil and the Industry and Competitiveness Group of UFRJ.

Johann Jaeckel is a PhD student in the Economics Department at the New School for Social Research. His primary research interest lies within the Political Economy of Trade and Development. Prior to coming to the New School, he studied at the University Of Exeter (UK) and the University of Muenster (Germany), where he received a MA equivalent in Political Science.




Michalis Nikiforos

Michalis Nikiforos is a PhD student in the Economics Department at the New School for Social Research. His main research interests lie in the area of Macroeconomics, in particular the relationship between economic growth and the distribution of income. He obtained an MA equivalent in Economics and MSc in Economic Theory, from the Athens University of Economics and Business. He has received the Scholarship of the Greek Scholarship Foundation for his PhD and was a University Fellow at The New School for the academic year 2008-2009.


Miriam Rehm

Miriam Rehm is a PhD student in the Economics department at the New School for Social Research. She obtained an MA equivalent at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, and subsequently received a Fulbright scholarship to study in the US. During her studies in Austria. Miriam has worked at the Central Bank, at the Institute of Economic Research, and for the Chamber of Labor. Her main research interests focus on public policy issues, including migration, labor market policies, fiscal policy, and taxation.

Daniel Samaan is a PhD student in the Economics Department at New School for Social Research. He is originally from Germany and holds an MA in Economics & Business Administration from Passau University. His principal interests are in microeconomics and finance, particularly agent-based modeling and bounded rationality.



Enno Schröder

Enno Schröder is a graduate student in economics at the New School for Social Research. He obtained an MA equivalent in economics from Humboldt-University Berlin, and subsequently received a DAAD scholarship for further graduate work at the New School. During his studies in Berlin Enno assisted in research projects on competition policy at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin (WZB), and before he came to New York he worked in the Environmental Policy Programme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammarbeit (GTZ) in Beijing.



David Stubbs

David Stubbs is currently a PHD student at the New School for Social Research, focusing on macroeconomics and economic development. David has recently held positions at the United Nations Development Program, the economics consultancy John Dunham and Associates as well as working as a teaching assistant for a graduate level course in Capital Markets and Development Finance. David also continues to run his own consultancy, Ingenium Economics, as well as write his monthly column in the finance magazine Corporate UK. Before moving to New York David was senior economist at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) based at their head office on Parliament Square in central London. He holds a BSc Honors. in Economics and Politics, from the University of Birmingham.



Sheba Trejani

Sheba Tejani is currently a PhD student in the Economics Department at the New School for Social Research. She has an M.A. in Economics from the New School and a B.A. in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College, MA. Originally from India, Sheba worked at the Economic and Political Weekly, a social science journal in Mumbai, before returning to the U.S. to obtain her PhD. She is currently a University Fellow. Sheba is interested in the relationship between trade and inequality, with a particular focus on the impact of trade liberalization on the informal labor market in developing countries and on gender inequality. She is also interested in researching the nature and causes of international financial crises and the policy tools that can be employed to effectively manage international capital flows.
